I too believe the gray one is the original. Here's why:

The green one has the tell-tale speckling of original compression imperfection enhanced by Overlay or some other form of Layer Blending.

The reflection on the hood is smaller on the green one. Usually, if a reflection changes during a color edit, it gets smaller, not larger, thanks to greater contrast caused by the addition of color and the blending to cause the effect.

Some small details seem to be missing, such as the shadow on the left front. The highlight is there, but the shadow that continues to the bottom of the large left grill section doesn't seem to be there.

All in all, quite a good recolor. :D

Yes, you're right, it's the grey one. What gave it away for you?
:iconmattblacklamb:
Thanks, I was quite pleased with it. :) The hardest part was probably trying to find the edge of the cars left (as we look at it) windscreen support, it blends very nicely with the background.

The white reflections. They should be slightly more green. If you rendered out the car and used color filter with maximum ';Preserve Highlights' on, tone it down a bit. If you rendered out the car, duplicated it, turned it green, and set the blend mode on overlay, duplicate that layer at low opacity and change the blend mode to normal. :)

The steps I used were more convoluted than either of the methods you suggested, from my understanding anyway.

First, I created a new layer & filled in all the parts I wanted green (the body of the car essentially). Then I found that there were a few blend modes that looked good so I saved one image with one blend mode & saved another image with a different blend mode.

I then opened both images in separate layers & found a blend mode that compromised between one that was brighter & the other, darker, image.
:iconblooper101:
Then cut out the car on another layer, turn it green, change the blend mode to Darken and lower the opacity to 50-128.
